Spatial Planning and Housing for the Sheffield City Region
Spatial Planning
To make decisions that will help the City Region to function effectively, we need to fully understand the range of places within the City Region. We need to assess their roles, inter-relationships and relationships with places outside the City Region.
We need to consider how these roles could develop, what is their potential to do so and therefore what policy approaches and investment decisions are needed to achieve the desired network of places or pattern of sustainable communities.
Work is now underway to look at these issues across the City Region, ie to think about the ‘spatial’ aspects of planning for a sustainable economy for the City Region. This work has a number of strands and influenced the proposal for a Sheffield City Region Local Enterprise Partnership.
Work has particularly focused on:
- ‘roles of places’ in the Sheffield City Region (see downloads)
- ‘planning for housing’ in the Sheffield City Region (see downloads)
These have been brought together in a 'Spatial Planning Assessment' for the City Region. This also includes sections on:
- Infrastructure (transport, green, social and physical)
- Employment land and retail
- Flood risk and water management
- Renewable energy
- Waste
- Minerals
A final version of this assessment is available to download below.
Housing and Regeneration
The importance to the City Region's economy of the number and quality of homes and the significance of continued regeneration in the City Region has been recognised by the SCR LEP. A new SCR Joint Board for Housing and Regeneration - joint with the Homes and Communities Agency - is being established. This will identify priorities for collective action in the City Region. The Board will draw on work that went into the preparation of a SCR Housing and Regeneration Framework that was prepared in 2010 (see downloads) and which influenced the proposal for a SCR LEP.
