The Vision
What the Dearne Valley used to look like
The vision – from carbon production, to carbon reduction – will be achieved in three big moves over the next 20 to 30 years:
Ecological know-how – providing the foundation for future work by education, raising awareness and offering information to empower communities and businesses to respond to the carbon challenge.
Community infrastructure – improving the energy efficiency of homes; improving public transport to reduce reliance on the private care; investigating the potential for zero carbon energy networks; encouraging a green industry focus; and providing more training opportunities in skills to address climate change, improving people’s job prospects and equipping them for the new jobs created.
Natural regeneration – enhancing the natural environment of the Dearne and marshalling its natural assets for economic and environmental benefit.
The Dearne Valley will be put on the map as a pioneer in the Sheffield City Region in understanding the new economic realities and the need for stewardship of our natural resources.
