Green Doctors
Households in the Dearne Valley can now take advantage of the service being offered by the Green Doctors to improve energy efficiency in their homes, save on fuel bills and reduce CO2 emissions from their home.
The Green Doctors are being employed by Groundwork Dearne Valley through the Government’s Future Jobs Fund programme which provides job opportunities, skills and experience for local unemployed young people.
Green Doctors will make house calls to:
- Conduct an energy survey of the household to establish how energy is used and where it could be used more efficiently;
- Provide advice to the householder on appropriate energy use and how behaviour change can save both CO2 emissions and money;
- Advise householders on larger scale energy efficiency improvements which could be made in the home e.g. cavity wall insulation and loft insulation;
- Signpost the householder to other services and grants available from national and local sources to introduce energy saving measures;
- Identify low-cost energy efficiency measures which can be installed by the householder or the Green Doctor where applicable.
In addition it is hoped that Green Doctors will be available on site at the demonstrator property at the Ann Rhodes Community Centre in Brampton. They will offer advice surgeries and run group sessions, within the community centre, as well as leading tours of the demonstrator property, explaining the different technologies and products in use.
