What is Climate Change?

The impact of climate change has been covered a great deal on TV and in the news. The temperature of the Earth is rising due to pollutants and carbon dioxide emissions, (green house gases).  This is resulting in the polar ice caps melting, rising sea levels and changes in weather patterns from droughts to floods. If we act now we have a chance to stabilise these changes and ensuring a sustainable place to live for our children and grandchildren.

What can I do?

You can do a number of small things which can make a big difference over time and save you money. Some ideas are:

·         Turn down your heating by 1 degree
·         Ensure no appliances are left on standby-energy saving plugs can help with this
·         Recycle wherever possible
·         Don’t leave  mobile phone  or laptop chargers on
·         Fit energy saving light bulbs to all your light fittings
·         Ensure that your home is well insulated
·         Only boil your kettle with as much water as you need
·         Use public transport where you can, consider car sharing, cycling and walking
·         Shop local and buy locally grown food
